Pentti Monkkonen’s work fuses disparate and even contradictory spheres of knowledge into works of art that live as monstrosities of significance. By employing an almost limitless field of inquiry, Monkkonen manages to traverse multiple fields of research while discovering unlikely relationships and common threads. Through the use of medium displacement, scale shifts and site specificity the artist confounds expectations while forging an in depth analysis of the manner in which cultural tendencies become preconceptions.
