Festival DOK Leipzig
Leipzig International Festival of Documentary and Animated Film
Venue:Leipzig Hauptbahnhof Willy-Brandt-Platz 04109 Leipzig The Leipzig International Festival of Documentary and Animated Film – DOK Leipzig for short – is both a festival for the general public and Germany’s most important gathering place for the international documentary film industry. Founded in 1955, it is the oldest documentary film festival in the world and one of the largest film festivals in Germany. Its combination of documentary and animated film makes it unique worldwide.
During the festival week, 217 artistically outstanding, socially relevant films and extended reality works – including those by HGB artists – will be screened at various cinemas and venues across Leipzig. The festival’s programme and organisation are shaped by the values of peace, human dignity, participation and diversity.
The selected works offer insights into familiar and unfamiliar ways of life, address current political debates or highlight social systems and their imbalances. At the same time, their creative styles reflect new trends in documentary and animated film. DOK Leipzig is committed to presenting these films to as wide an audience as possible, thereby contributing to a dialogue about art and the world that encourages shifts in perspective or the resolution of conflicts. Some of the events are free of charge and therefore easily accessible: films from the programme are screened daily at the main railway station, whilst the extended reality exhibition ‘DOK Neuland’ and some of the interactive formats (including the masterclasses and the DOK Talks) are free of charge.
