The exhibition of the Giesecke+Devrient Foundation's banknote collection presents around 50 banknotes and invites visitors on a journey of discovery through sounds, cultural heritage and national identity. Similar to an orchestra in which different instruments work together in harmony, the banknotes are divided into five thematic areas to emphasise different aspects of the content.

The artistic contributions by Pete Jones and Heidi Specker are a particular highlight of the exhibition. In his projects, Frankfurt-based photographer and conceptual artist Pete Jones is always on the lookout for what is hidden behind the surfaces. His series of works "Music on Banknotes" shows international banknotes in a special way in macro photographs - illuminated, enlarged and visualised down to their finest structures. Jones' depiction of money also serves as a symbol of cultural devaluation in an increasingly commercialised world. He questions the fragile relationship between culture and capital and calls for a new examination of the values and concepts that characterise society. The artist Heidi Specker is Professor of Photography at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig. She works in groups of works. In the screen print series "Noten" (Notes), 2018, she explores the 100 DM banknote dedicated to Clara Schumann. Specker examines a historical object by capturing the surface and structure of the banknote with a fine sense of patterns and geometric structures through the camera. She then prints individual sections in one colour in pink, blue, violet and light blue, so that they each have a different effect. The large-format macro photographs by both artists, which are dedicated to graphic details of security features and ornaments on the banknotes, allow us to see banknotes from a new perspective, recognise their masterful printing techniques and discover two artistically different perspectives on music on banknotes.
