Clear the runway for current works by students, graduates and post-graduate students of the painting and graphics class of Prof. Kerstin Drechsel at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and the painting class of Prof. Tilo Baumgärtel and Prof. Heide Nord at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. The participating artists work classically with painting and also explore the boundaries of the medium: from artistic graphics, video and comics to object art and installations. The panorama of selected works provides a comprehensive insight into the vitality and freshness of the classical medium as it is taught today at two of the most important art academies in East Germany with their great traditions. With Kerstin Drechsel and Tilo Baumgärtel, two very different painterly positions characterise the work in the specialist classes and make the exhibition a fascinating all-round view of young painting and its prospects for the artistic future.
