Upheavals shape our lives. They mark transitions from one state to another, often accompanied by new rules and uncertainties. Some upheavals are brought about intentionally, while others elude our control. Quite often, they can only be recognized as such in retrospect.
This exhibition is dedicated to these moments of change. It brings together 34 artistic positions that engage in diverse ways with ruptures, transitions, and transformations.
“Present Collective II” organizes the works into four sections that open up different lines of reflection: from questions of form and medium to engagements with the human body and the constitution of (social) spaces, and extending to the negotiation of the Wende period.
As one of the first large East German companies privatized by the Treuhandanstalt, VNG AG is itself a testament to the Wende period. In the exhibition, works from the collection of contemporary painting and prints are shown alongside works by VNGart prize winners and invited artists, connected through their ties to Central Germany.
