As we enter into the HGB we have an encounter with the “Radical Receptionist”, a welcoming personified space of relation. A character who has brought themself to task. In response we say we bring with us a curatorial, method, questions, propositions, theories, knowledge production and art practices packaged in a structure whose main task is to “build bridges between art practice and intellectual labor”.
At 5pm the program starts with an open exchange/talk/exercise between artists, researchers, audience and our guests from the Institute of African Studies of the Uni Leipzig. Moderated by al-Kalamah Hammam al-Awam and guided by the theme “syncretic Narrative Forms” which describes a creative experiment that applies curatorial art research techniques and collaboration as key structures, that generate results and open pathways which were unimagined prior to that. Starting from that point we will speak about translation as a method of initiating connections or obscuring relations an histories, the deconstructing boundaries between different institutions and bodies, the idea of home within the framework of western temporal space, and art practice and its responsibility to the archive.
At 7pm we invite you to see the Performance HELL SCHOOL: EXTRACTION by the artist and writer C Bain. HELL SCHOOL: EXTRACTION is a fictional class about the real phenomenon of energy and resource extraction, understood in tandem with the extraction of labor power, erotic energy, and cultural specificity, in order to create political and social fuel (or “knowledge”) in the service of hegemonic western power. HELL SCHOOL is a series of eschatological performance lectures, delivered by the artist, in character, as an unaccountable, un-credibe, psychologically fragile, toxically masculine academic.
At 8pm EbobE and Aloe will start their Concert. Influenced by neo soul and alternative RnB, their songs retain a unique and emotionally charged sound. Believing in the value of first musical intuition, they leave the improvised songs mostly unchanged.
The Program ends with a music set by ADXM, that defies categorization. His music is made for the head and hips – an experience for the here and now.
Third Spaces between the seconds is a series of events initiated by the art and art research collective Hear the Strong-Willed Nation. Hear The Strong Willed Nation is composed of different artists, researchers, musicians and everything else beyond and in between, aimed at creating nonlinear and multi directional approach to art and knowledge production that isn’t disconnected of the lived experiences and realities of its times.
