Next year, the artistic competition for a new monument commemorating the Peaceful Revolution of 1989 in Leipzig will be announced.
The future Freedom and Unity Monument offers room for a variety of opinions, perspectives, ideas and debates. But how does one discuss a memorial that does not yet exist?
Eight film works portray places in the regional and supra-regional remembrance landscape, illuminate their backgrounds and the discussions surrounding them. These different places and practices of remembrance serve as "interlocutors" for the future Freedom and Unity Monument and explore the role it could play in our society.
An informative part of the exhibition deals with the ongoing developments in the monument process. A supporting and mediation program with talks, workshops and dialogical guided tours invites all visitors to participate in the discussion about the Freedom and Unity Monument.
