In the discussion on the theme of the exhibition ‘Notes on Lightness’ Lightness or ‘becoming light’ represents a resistant movement that counteracts the pulling force of the gravity of unbearable burdens by opening up an unexpected, surprising space of possibility. But what does ‘lightness’ mean in art, and how can it be described more precisely? Does it always have a political and an affective, a linguistic and a physical side? Is it changing with the digital world? And how can we avoid calling for its (possibly unfounded, commercial) promises of happiness?
