Within painting Franziska Reinbothe deals with what usually remains hidden: the back of a painting and its edges. To make both visible, she reshapes her paintings: the canvas is compressed, perforated, folded or turned from front to back. The stretcher frame is exposed, broken, or even completely removed. Franziska Reinbothe's initial question is always: What actually happens when...? Her driving artistic force is not iconoclasm - but curiosity.
