Achim Mohné and Uta Kopp present their work as artists and designers as well as their joint projects REMOTE WORDS and darktaxa. Different forms and strategies of artistic action will be addressed as well as post-photography as an extended media practice with its technical, social, cultural or political changes in the course of digitalization, working in collaborative group contexts or aspects of an extended sustainability.
Achim Mohné studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, followed by postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. The multi-award-winning artist has held visiting professorships at the Kunstakademie Münster, Folkwang University of the Arts Essen, Indiana University, Bloomington, among others. From 2013 to 2020 he taught photography and new media at ETH Zurich, where he most recently headed the research department "3D Modeling / 3D Printing". In his photo-based works, he is concerned with the function of images, which can be understood as a link between social, interdisciplinary and intermedial actions within the framework of a permanent socio-critical discourse. In 2007, together with Uta Kopp, he founded REMOTEWORDS, an interdisciplinary long-term artistic project at the intersection of art, literature, design, internet culture and navigation technologies. In 2018, together with Michael Reisch, he founded the project darktaxa, a working and discourse platform of artist:s working experimentally at the interface of photography and new digital imaging technologies.
Uta Kopp studied typography, editorial design and corporate design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz as well as screen and broadcast design as part of her postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. The visual communication designer worked for renowned design and advertising agencies and founded her own studio in 2003. Her work in the fields of editorial, corporate, broadcast and web design has won national and international design awards. She has been teaching typography and layout at universities since 2009, and from 2017-2019 as a visiting professor at the Kunstakademie in Münster.
The talk is part of the public event series EXPANDED SUSTAINABILITY of Prof. Christin Lahr's class Artistic Action and Research with guests in the winter semester 2022/23. The talk opens the multi-part workshop REMOTE WORDS with Uta Kopp and Achim Mohné.
