The performance “As If a Tiny Hoof Turned Me Into a Goat” follows the logic of a folk fairy tale. It unfolds through a fragile tension between grief, anticipation, deep melancholy, childish naivety, absurdity, and the irreversibility of transformation.

During the performance, the poem “And Here We Are Again” will be read repeatedly. This continuous repetition will create an obsessive loop, gradually building tension and transforming the text into a kind of incantation, as if attempting to reverse time.

The idea is rooted in the figure of the poet Gor’usha, who passed away some time ago from an HIV-related illness. With his prior permission, his poetry continues to appear within the works of Andrei Dmitrenko.

What emerges is an impossible presence: a quiet witnessing of someone who has already become a memory.

Under the motto "Science against Fascism - Responsibility of Science in Times of Fascist Danger", activities will take place nationwide in the week from 1 to 7 June.The forms of participation are broad: extra-curricular ad-hoc meetings enable a low-threshold exchange between students, administrative staff and professors* on the issue; seminars already planned take up the topic and open up space for discussion; additional public evening events open up space for wider civil society; institutes pause their regular teaching to specifically create time for in-depth debates. The aim is to create a common impetus at a national level that explicitly allows for different formats and local focal points.

Smart systems seem to be possessed by daemons: In computer science, a "daemon" refers to a background process that operates without direct user control. On the one hand, the term refers to the opacity and apparent autonomy of digital systems. On the other hand, the terminological transfer of the demonic to technical media opens up a historical and epistemic perspective: the daemon becomes a figure of thought that can be used to reflect, metaphorise and historically situate current ideas about AI. Based on this technical attribution, the lecture examines the demon as a central figure at the interface of art and technology - exemplified by Agnieszka Polska's video work "The Demon's Brain" (2019). This work shows how the idea of machine intelligence developed from the interweaving of brain and computer metaphors and has since been closely linked to reflections on the demonic. This idea is based on a double movement: the explanation of the human mind by the computer and the transfer of cognitive processes to technical systems. However, this constellation proves to be less a realisation of "intelligence" than a metaphorical projection that mystifies the processes of data aggregation and pattern recognition as a movement of thought. Polska's work translates this problematic into an aesthetic form in which the figure of the demon simultaneously reflects the political, ecological and economic infrastructures of the digital and embeds them in the prehistory of technocapitalism. In this way, the demonic visualises the fundamental ambivalence of smart digital technologies - between control and powerlessness, glorification and transfiguration.

Michael Riedel and Museum Haus Konstruktiv have enjoyed a close relationship for several years. As a prominent contemporary artist, he was featured in major group exhibitions in 2019 and 2021, and the museum's own collection includes two of his works. The artist has now created a new work for Haus Konstruktiv.

The reason for the renewed collaboration was the museum's move to the Löwenbräukunst site, where Haus Konstruktiv was able to move into premises on different floors in both the eastern section at Limmatstrasse 268 and the western section at Limmatstrasse 270. At the invitation of the museum, Riedel has now developed a wall and ceiling installation that picks up on this spatial situation and visually connects the different levels - from the entrance area in the eastern section to the mezzanine floor and the first floor in the western section.

tIED tO tONES is a collaboration between harp artist Camille O (fka Hans Unstern) and choreographer Jule Flierl. Together they create a harp installation made of piano wire that spans the space and is played with bodies, voices and tools made of construction and textiles. They relate musical material from the Baroque period to songs written and composed especially for the harp. tIED tO tONES begins as a concert and then invites the audience to try out the impressive instrument for themselves and create a shared sound space. The performance deals with the future expectation of ecological and physical decay, as well as the need for mourning, listening, community and a new beginning.

Is the end of the world even imaginable, or does it remain in the realm of myth because we anticipate it through simulations? Our notions of an impending event of the end are shaped by nostalgia, historical templates, and pop culture, while we must acknowledge that a true end can only be viewed in retrospect. When it comes to dealing with contingency, therefore, the recourse to myth comes as no surprise. For that is precisely where the event resides until it arrives in the present. And that is precisely where we can begin: in the transition to something unrepresentable. In the exhibition, bodies, materialities, and narratives meet at the edges of their own legibility—where camouflage, technology, and intimacy merge and become indistinguishable.

Daniel Krüger works with light, materials, and space to explore how, when, and whether content can dissolve into its purest form, while Nike Kühn examines the reciprocal mimesis of nature and technology, as well as notions of decline and nostalgic visual regimes. Nora Lube engages with social and spatial environments, inscriptions of time, and economic power structures. In doing so, she translates these influences into a material and formal language that oscillates between security, intimacy, and self-assertion. Arno Selle addresses facades, intimate dysfunctions, and power relations in open narratives that destabilize functional systems. In their collaborative work, Jannis Weu and C.Bain reflect on pornography as visual power and open up spaces between mythology and queerness, in which bodies surrender to an ambivalent relationship between play and violence. The exhibition is curated by Benno Hauswaldt.

An extraordinary sound space that touches, impresses and invites: musical craftsmanship is combined with a radical opening to new communities of listening.
"tIED tO tONES" is a collaboration between harp artist Camille O (fka Hans Unstern) and choreographer Jule Flierl. Together they build a harp installation made of piano wire that spans the room and is played with bodies, voices and tools made of construction and textiles. They juxtapose musical material from the Baroque period with songs written and composed especially for the spatial harp. Vulnerable, surprising, poetic texts slide through the harp strings, questioning how we perceive life, how we hear the world, how we talk and sing about it and how we can cry together or alone: "New thoughts need new tongues / New eyes need new tears". tIED tO tONES begins as a concert and then invites the audience to try out the impressive instrument for themselves and create a shared sound space without hierarchies. An expansive concert performance about future expectations of ecological and physical decay, the need for mourning, listening, community and a new beginning.

To mark the official opening of the new "Additive Multimaterial Manufacturing (AM³)" laboratory funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), HTWK Leipzig and HGB Leipzig are organising a specialist symposium followed by the networking event "Research meets ...".

The symposium brings together experts from research, industry, art and education and offers exciting insights into current developments in additive manufacturing. Prof. Fabian Hesse and Prof. Mitra Wakil as well as Dr Michael Klipphahn-Karge on the topic of "Digital Materialities and Hybrid Time Travellers" are part of the symposium.

On Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at 6 pm, the BMW Photo Award Leipzig will be presented at the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig (MdbK). This year's winners are HGB graduates Viktoria Binschtok, Harald Kirschner and Jay Ritchie. The event also marks the opening of the exhibition, which will be on display until 13 September 2026.

Since 2024, the BMW Group and the MdbK have awarded the prize every two years to artists who either have a biographical connection to Leipzig and the region or whose artistic work deals with the city and its surroundings. Positions from the fields of photography and related visual media are honoured. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros each and is linked to a joint exhibition including a catalogue.

By organising the BMW Photo Award Leipzig, BMW and the MdbK are pursuing several objectives: to strengthen Leipzig as a photography location, to promote younger or hitherto less visible positions in particular and to continue the more than 20-year collaboration between BMW and the MdbK in the field of photography. The exhibition of the award-winning works is also intended as an artistic contribution to the debate on the history, present and future prospects of the city of Leipzig.

Stefan Weppelmann, Elmar Kleuter and Philipp Freytag will speak at the opening.

AI technologies are fundamentally changing how images are created, edited, distributed, described and viewed. Their influence on visual culture and contemporary art practice is one of the most visible phenomena in this field, which is dominated by opaque technical processes.

The comprehensive thematic exhibition will occupy both exhibition spaces of the SCHIRN with around 40 works, including video installations, graphics, sculptures and photographs. The SCHIRN is presenting around 25 international artists, including Prof. Clemens von Wedemeyer, Nora Al-Badri, Nouf Aljowaysir, Julian Charrière, Grégory Chatonsky, Kate Crawford & Vladan Joler, Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst, Agnieszka Kurant, Trevor Paglen, Hito Steyerl, Sasha Stiles and Taller Estampa.

A broad spectrum of topics is examined, including resources and environmental factors as well as questions of perception, machine vision or facial and emotional recognition. The works address topics ranging from micro-labour and the establishment of alternative histories to possible visions of the future. Other aspects include so-called AI slop and slopaganda (the use of AI-generated images as a new form of political propaganda). A series of time capsules - small cabinets of curiosities - link the present with the past in the show, thus embedding the current changes brought about by new technologies in a historical context.

On Wednesday, 17 June 2026, the annual exhibition of the Evening Academy opens in the Festsaal of the HGB. Every semester, the HGB's Evening Academy offers courses in fine art, applied and artistic photography and design.

Master students of the university are available to the participants as professional course instructors. In the joint summer exhibition in the HGB ballroom, the individual courses show their results and open up for dialogue. Everyone is cordially invited!

Tactics of visually powerful forms of protest that have characterised social movements, especially since the 1960s, are reminiscent of the activist visual politics of the suffragettes, who fought for women's suffrage at the beginning of the 20th century. Visual activism, theatrical, carnivalesque processions and iconoclasm were already being used back then. Visual campaigns and processions were not least evidence of different ambitions, conflicts and contradictions, which were also linked to earlier historical and potential social upheavals. The lecture is dedicated to the interpretation of the image cultures of the suffragettes in order to sharpen their potential for a critical historical understanding of social movements and upheavals, their course and their failure.

In the exhibition "Mirrored - Perspectives on Contemporary Etching", students and teachers from the Braunschweig University of Art, the weißensee kunsthochschule Berlin and the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig present around 50 current positions in intaglio printing.

With the emergence of the woodcut in the early 15th century, copperplate engraving in the middle of the century and finally etching shortly before 1500, printmaking became an art genre in its own right. With personalities such as Johannes Gutenberg (ca. 1400-1468), inventor of letterpress printing with movable type, and the exceptional woodcut and etching artist Albrecht Dürer (1471- 1528), Germany can look back on a centuries-old graphic tradition.

Today, it is the art academies in particular that pass on this heritage and at the same time provide new impetus. In their workshops, students receive comprehensive training in classical and experimental intaglio printing techniques - from drypoint, line etching, aquatint, vernis mou, reservage, mezzotint, shabaquatinta, but also techniques such as screen printing on printing plates or processes associated with photography such as cliché verre or photogravure through to interfaces with the digital world. The training programmes at the universities in the three participating federal states are basically the same and yet there are subtle, visible differences.

The workshop directors Maria Ondrej, Braunschweig University of Art, Pedro Boese, weißensee kunsthochschule berlin and Robert Schmiedel, Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts, together with Katharina Walter, Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig, came up with the idea of launching a cross-university exhibition project. The aim is to visualise the diversity and quality of training in the field of etching and at the same time to focus on the next generation of artists. Eight to ten students from each university are invited to take part.

At the same time, the project is a first step towards strengthening similarities and cooperation between the institutions in the long term, working out differences and also providing new impetus. The co-operation is an important contribution to keeping gravure printing alive as an intangible cultural heritage.

The results of the "Mirrored - Perspectives on Contemporary Etching" exhibition will be made accessible to the public at various locations in Germany. The exhibition will kick off at the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig.

The HGB invites you to the Diploma Tour, which shows the final projects of this year's graduates. Visitors can look forward to exhibitions throughout the Academy building. Works by over 70 graduates in painting/graphics, photography, book art/graphic design and media art will be on display in around 30 exhibition rooms, organised by the graduates together with Ilse Lafer (Head of the HGB Gallery).

On the opening day, the HGB will once again celebrate its traditional summer party, which this year will be organised by students from the Book Art/Graphic Design department. The programme includes live acts and DJ sets by and with HGB students, bars and food.

The week-long, interdisciplinary summer academy in Libken is an invitation to live and work together as artists, detached from familiar surroundings and structures. This is the ninth year that the Summer Academy has taken place in the Libken artists' residence, a prefabricated building with a large garden in the Uckermark countryside.

The theme of this year's summer academy is The collective space and the I - an approach using the artistic practices of ceramics, photography, painting, performance, text and dialogue. How do we want to and can we work and act artistically today in a time of cultural cutbacks, war, climate crisis and social polarisation?

The summer academy at the Libken artists' residence sees itself as a laboratory, experimental space and collective place to think and work in the Uckermark - in the countryside of eastern Germany. In a region characterised by ruptures, reinterpretations and contradictory social experiences.
