An exhibition in cooperation with the Wüstenrot Foundation and the Museum Folkwang, Essen, and with the kind support of the Friends of the Staatsgalerie.
17 artistic-documentary photo and video works from the collection of the Museum Folkwang in Essen are shown for the first time in an exhibition at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. The series convey themes from culture, society and politics. Sometimes they are classically made as black-and-white hand prints, sometimes installed as video loops or wallpapered directly onto the wall. The selected works were created between 1994 and 2019 and were awarded by the Wüstenrot Foundation and curatorially accompanied by the Museum Folkwang. The anniversary exhibition can be seen under the title "Images of the Present" in "THE GÄLLERY - Raum für Fotografie" of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
"THE GÄLLERY - Raum für Fotografie" is located on the first floor of the Alte Staatsgalerie and is primarily dedicated to the presentation of the museum collection's extensive photographic holdings, many of which have never before been shown to the public. Cooperations with the photo scene of the city and region make "THE GÄLLERY" a lively showcase of contemporary photo art.
The exhibition can be visited free of charge on the opening evening as well as during the entire duration. This is made possible by the Wüstenrot Foundation.
