Diploma Exhibition Su Yu Hsin: Particular Waters
Venue:G2 Schaulager Dittrichring 13 04109 Leipzig "From ultra-pure water as a manifestation of the scientific representation of water in H2O to local water conflicts between industrial, agricultural, and domestic water, the crisis of modern water is by no means limited to the issue of dwindling supplies. In the Particular Waters project, I examine three scales of related waters flowing through Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the largest semiconductor manufacturing facility in the world. In parallel with TSMC's growth, rainfall in Taiwan has become unpredictable, making the water footprint of chip production even more problematic. To what extent has the drought created a climate of concern that further legitimizes TSMC's high water demand simply because the company's fate seems inextricably linked to Taiwanese and U.S. national security? Through an environmental study of the 2021 drought that exacerbated global chip shortages, the project moves across scalar registers to uncover the socio-technological construction of the drought."
