At the end of the winter semester, art historian, curator and publicist Prof Dr Beatrice von Bismarck, one of the most influential teaching personalities, will be leaving the HGB. Since her appointment to the Leipzig Academy of Art in 2000 at the latest, von Bismarck has provided significant impetus for teaching at the HGB, not only as Professor of Art History and Visual Studies. She initiated the founding of the Master's programme "Cultures of the Curatorial" in 2009, Germany's first curatorial degree programme, and was programme director of the university's own gallery until 2011. As Vice-Rector in Joachim Brohm's rectorate from 2003 to 2011, she also shaped the transformation of the university system at the HGB in the course of the Bologna Process. Last but not least, with her extensive research, lecture and publication activities, she contributed significantly to the reputation of the HGB as an art academy with international appeal, which not only stands for excellent artistic-practical training, but also for innovative teaching and research in philosophy, art and media theory as well as theories of the curatorial.
