The Leipzig Declaration in full:
"The academic institutions in the Leipzig region are taking a firm stand against attacks on our democracy. Respect for the dignity of all people, the free and democratic basic order, plurality, tolerance, international exchange and diversity are prerequisites for our coexistence on campus, for successful research and the best study conditions.
The fact that anti-democratic tendencies are gaining strength and inhumane slogans are gaining support fills us with concern. People from different backgrounds and from all over the world study and work at our academic institutions and make a daily contribution to solving problems and answering pressing questions about the future of our society. This joint reflection and work can only succeed in freedom.
Hatred and marginalisation do not produce solutions. They lead to fear of discrimination and paralyse innovation. We call for the fundamental values of democracy to be defended at all times, both within and outside our research institutions, and for people to take a stand against right-wing extremism.
The research institutions in the Leipzig region will continue to bring together people from a wide range of cultural, geographical, religious and social backgrounds at our cosmopolitan centre of science. We will continue to discuss and conduct research in an open, fact-based and unbiased manner. These values are essential for us."- Signatory organisations
