For their teaching project "Kino in Bewegung" (Cinema in Motion), HGB lecturers Carsten Möller (Artistic Associate Moving Image) and Prof. Clemens von Wedemeyer (Expanded Cinema class) were honoured today by Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow with the Saxon Teaching Award 2025 from the Ministry of Science in the category of music and art colleges. The prize, endowed with €5,000, recognises exemplary, committed teaching and particularly innovative and sustainable teaching concepts at Saxony's universities, selected by a jury of eleven.
"'Kino in Bewegung' combines the teaching of artistic practice and theory with concrete engagement in Saxony's film landscape. Together with the teaching staff, I am very proud that the quality of this teaching programme at the HGB Leipzig has been recognised with the Saxon Teaching Award," said HGB Rector Agnes Wegner.
The Ministry of Science's citation states: "Prof. Clemens von Wedemeyer and Carsten Möller from the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig [...] are honoured for the successful combination of artistic teaching and professionalisation through well-considered, well-founded teaching practice, including the 'Constructive Alignment' approach, as well as for their courageous willingness to break with familiar routines."
The "Kino in Bewegung" initiative is aimed directly at the Leipzig region in Saxony in order to promote exchange and culture through film screenings and discussions. The aim of the teaching format is to expand students' artistic and curatorial skills through research and regional exchange. The participatory structure also enables real-life training. The project was launched in 2019 and since then, teachers and students have held more than 30 screenings with an accompanying programme in various cities and municipalities in Saxony. The project is now supported on a voluntary basis by many teachers, alumni and students of the HGB: Mareike Bernien, Milan Braun, Christoph Gnaedig, Hendrik Heinecke, Prof. Stine Jacobsen, Juliane Jaschnow, Paul Lissner, Emmanuel Megersa, Frederike Moormann, Theresa Münnich, Andreja Saltyte, Johanna Schmidt, Stefanie Schröder, Stefania Smolkina, Leo Tax, Moritz von Schurer, Ina Weisser, Anna Zett and others.
Since 2014, the Saxon Teaching Prize has been awarded every two years by the Minister of Science to university lecturers who have made outstanding and new contributions to good teaching.
