
The HGB Academy Council met on Friday, 4 July 2025 with a new line-up: as the terms of office of Prof. Dr Bernd Scherer, Prof. Dr Beatrice von Bismarck and Hilke Wagner came to an end, three new members were welcomed: Prof. Maureen Mooren, Stefan Raue and Hortensia Völckers. The members elected Hortensia Völckers as the new Chairwoman. She succeeds Prof Dr Bernd Scherer in this position.
The HGB Academy Council is now composed as follows:
- Hortensia Völckers, Chairwoman of the Academy Council, curator, cultural manager, former Artistic Director of the German Federal Cultural Foundation
- Steffen Hildebrand, entrepreneur (Hildebrand & Partner), collector, Managing Director of G2 Kunsthalle Leipzig
- Prof Maureen Mooren, HGB Leipzig
- Stefan Raue, Director of Deutschlandradio
- Prof. Clemens von Wedemeyer, HGB Leipzig
Agnes Wegner, Rector of the HGB, congratulated Hortensia Völckers on her election and thanked Prof. Dr Bernd Scherer, Hilke Wagner and Prof. Dr Beatrice von Bismarck for their many years of commitment and excellent cooperation.
Sebastian Gemkow, Saxony's Minister of State for Science, commented on the new appointments to the HGB University Council: "I wish the new members of the University Council Stefan Raue, Hortensia Völckers and Prof Maureen Mooren every success in their important committee work. The University Council is of great importance for the democratic constitution of a university and I am grateful that they are taking on the responsible task of this supervisory and advisory body and actively contributing to the positive development of the HGB."
Together with the Senate, Extended Senate and Rectorate, the University Council forms the university's main committees. It meets at least twice a semester. In addition to making recommendations on profiling and improving the university's performance and competitiveness, the University Council is also responsible for approving the draft business plan, development planning and the annual financial statements as well as discharging the Rectorate.
