Hyerin Eom from the expanded cinema class honoured at the MDM Young Talent Award in Halle

Hyerin Eom from Prof. Clemens von Wedemeyer's expanded cinema class received a special mention from the jury at the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) Young Talent Day for her film "The Voices Beneath the Earth". The animated short film uses wax animation to reconstruct massacres of civilians during the Korean War in a very personal way in the form of a poetic fairy tale in which a small child, an old chestnut tree and a mute tiger play a role.

Every year, MDM's KONTAKT Young Talent Day offers talented filmmakers from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia a stage: at the specialist event, a total of 15 young Central German talents presented their concepts for ten film and series projects to around 170 filmmakers, producers and editors in attendance. In the form of a pitching session, they presented their current project ideas in order to find partners for their realisation. Projects of all genres and formats can be submitted - from short or feature-length fiction, documentary, animation and hybrid films to projects from the field of new media. An expert jury will decide on the selection of projects. The deadline for submissions is always 31 March. The next call for entries will be published at the beginning of 2026. The 22nd KONTAKT Young Talent Day is expected to take place in Thuringia in summer 2026. More information...
