The workshop is sponsored by the Axel Springer Foundation and the Support Büro of the HGB.
Over the period of one week, students from the Academy for Transcultural Exchange (ATA) and other students of the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB) will work together on topics such as transculturality and internationalization in society and everyday life. The workshop results will be presented as an exhibition in the HGB Gallery, opening on 15 March from 6pm.
With the admission of refugees to the ATA since 2016, the HGB is tasked with creating a transversal movement designed to bring all actors to a cultural change of perspective. In an experimental workshop, led by the Leipzig artist and curator Molina Ghosh, students from all HGB study courses and the ATA programme will work artistically on the question of how transculturality and internationalization is experienced in personal life, in the HGB, in the city of Leipzig and in Saxony.
Performance will be used as a shared level of experience; it is about artistic and personal collaborations and associated personal development. The HGB Gallery will become a space for experimentation, a studio, in which the artists have at their disposal backdrops, scenery and various materials, in order to spontaneously and subjectively get from the action to the work.
On the last day of the workshop the HGB Gallery will become an exhibition space again, showing the resulting works; the protected experimental space will be open to the public, inviting visitors to participate and engage in discourse.
