mdbk.deOn Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at 6 pm, the BMW Photo Award Leipzig will be presented at the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig (MdbK). The event will also mark the opening of the exhibition, which will be on display until 13 September 2026.
The BMW Group and the MdbK have been awarding the prize every two years since 2024 to artists who either have a biographical connection to Leipzig and the region or whose artistic work deals with the city and its surroundings. Positions from the fields of photography and related visual media are honoured. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros each and is linked to a joint exhibition including a catalogue.
By organising the BMW Photo Award Leipzig, BMW and the MdbK are pursuing several objectives: to strengthen Leipzig as a photography location, to promote younger or hitherto less visible positions in particular and to continue the more than 20-year collaboration between BMW and the MdbK in the field of photography. The exhibition of the award-winning works is also intended as an artistic contribution to the examination of the history, present and future perspectives of the city of Leipzig.
This year's winners are Viktoria Binschtok, Harald Kirschner and HGB graduate Jay Ritchie. Jay Ritchie studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig under Tina Bara from 2018 to 2020 and completed his Meisterschüler degree there from 2020 to 2022. He now lives and works in Berlin.
Stefan Weppelmann, Elmar Kleuter and Philipp Freytag will speak at the opening.
