Michal B. Ron from the Institute for Theory is guest editor of the special issue "ReCOLLECTive ForGetting"/ "Collective Forgetting" of Tohu magazine. Tohu is an independent online magazine for art and culture from the Middle East. The new issue can be read online in English, Hebrew or Arabic.
Over the past year and a half, it has been difficult to speak. The silence was due to shock, fear, pain, despair, outrage and disbelief at the great uncertainty that neither words nor images could capture. Behind the scenes, however, there was a constant dialogue: stuttering, whispering. The ReCOLLECTive ForGetting issue presents works by hopeful people from the region who refuse to give up and raise their voices. In the introduction, Michal b. Ron asks about forgetting in the context of the culture of remembrance, commemorative propaganda, war, trauma, grief.
