On May 15, 2024, Minister President Michael Kretschmer, Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow, Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann and the rectors of the 14 state universities in Saxony – including Agnes Wegner, Rector of HGB Leipzig – concluded the next grant agreement. In Dresden, they signed the agreement, which regulates the basic funding of the universities for the years 2025 to 2032. According to a statement from the Free State of Saxony, "taking into account the increase in fixed and expected wage and salary increases, a total of around seven billion euros" will flow to the universities over these eight years. The Free State of Saxony's grant agreement is unique in Germany and provides Saxon universities with planning security.
