The artistic research project HYBRIS by Yana Zschiedrich has been nominated for this year’s S+T+Arts Prize – one of the most important international awards at the intersection of art, technology, and science.
The nomination acknowledges HYBRIS as a significant contribution to the global discourse on ecological transformation, material research, and societal change.
The S+T+Arts Prize is awarded by the European Commission and supported by renowned partner institutions including Ars Electronica, INOVA+, La French Tech Grande Provence, Media Solution Center, Salzburg Festival, Sónar Festival, T6 Ecosystems, and the Art Collection of TU Dresden. The project is based on an artistic-technological engagement with circular processes, transformation, and collaboration between humans, materials, and microorganisms. Mealworms play a particularly important role – their transformative power is a fundamental prerequisite for the entire project.
This nomination follows two awards received by Yana Zschiedrich, who finished her Meisterschülerin Studies at HGB with the project in 2024: the Culture4Climate Prize, awarded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft, and the VNGart Prize, presented by the VNG Foundation and the Friends of the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB).
