The HGB mourns the death of the artist and HGB alumnus Erasmus Schröter. From 1977 to 1982 he studied photography at the Leipzig Academy of Fine Arts under Helfried Strauß and others. From 2005 to 2007 Erasmus Schröter taught at the HGB as a temporary professor in the department of Fundamentals of Photography.
With his wife, the artist and professor for painting/printmaking Annette Schröter, he left the GDR in 1985 in protest against the political conditions and moved to Hamburg. In 1997 Erasmus and Annette Schröter returned to Leipzig. Schröter's work has been exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions in Germany and has also been presented internationally, especially in England and Canada. He also regularly exhibited together with Annette Schröter. In 2018, the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig dedicated a large show to the artist couple.
Erasmus Schröter died in the night of April 18, 2021 at the age of 64 much to soon in his hometown Leipzig.
