The photographer Evelyn Richter is awarded the first Bernd and Hilla Becher Prize for her life's work in Düsseldorf. The artist, who is now 90 years old, worked and taught at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig for over 20 years and was awarded an honorary professorship in 1992. In her continuous, mostly black and white groups of works, the photographer documented, among other things, insights into the realities of life in the GDR. With her many years of work, she had a lasting influence on the teaching of photography at the HGB. In November 2009, the "Evelyn Richter Archive of the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung at the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig" was founded on the initiative of the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung.
