In 2026, the German Publishers and Booksellers Association (Börsenverein des deutschen Buchhandels) and the Stiftung Buchkunst will once again be seeking Germany’s Most Beautiful Regional Book. The aim is to bring the diversity of regional books to the public’s attention and to encourage publishers to produce regional titles of the highest quality. Among the nominated titles in the "Non-fiction/Guidebooks" category is the HGB publication "unvereint⁄vereint", edited by Sven Bergelt, Juliane Jaschnow and Dieter Daniels, and designed by HGB graduate Hendrik Heinicke.
"unvereint⁄vereint" documents the HGB’s two-part exhibition project of the same name, which was first presented in 2024 at the Leipzig Festival of Lights in commemoration of the Peaceful Revolution and continued in 2025 as part of Chemnitz’s year as European Capital of Culture. The publication brings together artistic responses from HGB students and graduates on social transformation, the culture of remembrance and the negotiation of ‘we’ identities, placing these within historical, political and urban contexts.
The jury has selected a total of 15 titles across three categories as nominees for "Germany’s Most Beautiful Regional Book’" On 8 October at 3.30 pm, the German Publishers and Booksellers Association and the Stiftung Buchkunst will each award a prize to one title from the categories of Literature/Fiction, Non-fiction/Self-help and Tourist Discovery. The public jury session, followed by the awards ceremony, will take place as part of the Frankfurt Book Fair at the Stiftung Buchkunst stand (Hall 3.0, Stand J129/J126). Birte Kreft, Managing Director of the Stiftung Buchkunst, will host the event.
