Günter Karl Bose (born 1951) has been one of the leading graphic designers in Germany for around 25 years. It is designed for clients from the cultural sector, for orchestras and theaters, for museums and publishers. From letters and numbers, image fragments, colors and lines, he creates imaginative images that can do both: surprise the eye and respond with emotion to a theme. The Museum of Arts and Crafts Hamburg (MKG) shows in Bose's first museum exhibition about 140 works, especially posters, but also smaller printed matter such as books, brochures, flyers and CD covers and gives a comprehensive impression of the work of the Berlin graphic artist. One focus is the work for the Musica Viva series of the Bavarian Radio. Other chapters of the exhibition are devoted to theatrical and opera posters, typeface design and typography, as well as to the topic of layout and book design.

Günter Karl Bose studied German and Political Science at the University of Freiburg. From 1980 to 1995 he was publisher in Berlin (Brinkmann & Bose), from 1993 to 2017 professor of typography and director of the Institute for Book Art at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. As a designer (www.lmn-berlin.com), he works primarily in the cultural sector. The term "artist" he feels for himself as "inappropriate". He has published numerous publications on cultural and media history, including the volumes "Photomaton" (2011), "Big Zep" (2013), "Stardust" (2014) and "Bookish" (2017) with anonymous photographs from his collection. 2013 appeared the essay volume "The end of a load. The liberation from the books ".

Following the exhibition, Günter Karl Bose will hand over the work shown as a generous gift from the Graphic Collection of the MKG.
