
Lawyer Daniel Andrae was appointed the new Chancellor of the HGB Leipzig. He will take office on 1 January 2026 for a term of office of eight years. Andrae received his certificate of appointment at the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWKT) from State Secretary Prof Dr Heike Graßmann. Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow also congratulated Mr Andrae on his appointment and wished him every success in his new position.
Daniel Andrae was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1977. He studied law at Martin Luther University Halle/Wittenberg and at the University of Sheffield (UK). He completed his 2nd state examination at the Higher Regional Court in Dresden. Between 2008 and 2019, he was legal advisor to the City of Borna. Since 2016, he has worked as a lecturer at the HSF Meißen University of Applied Sciences in the Department of General Administration, initially in parallel to his position in Borna and since 2019 as a full-time lecturer in the fields of municipal law and municipal commercial law. Andrae publishes regularly in legal journals. One of his main areas of specialisation is the scientific monitoring of sustainability projects in municipalities.
"I am delighted to be returning to administrative work and look forward to the challenge of helping to shape the future of the HGB in my position as Chancellor," said Daniel Andrae on his appointment.
As Chancellor, Andrae will be in charge of the university's administration. His responsibilities include the areas of budget, personnel, law, construction and technology.
According to the Saxon Higher Education Act, the SMWKT appoints the Chancellor as a temporary civil servant or employs him/her as a temporary employee on the recommendation of the Rector after hearing the Senate and in agreement with the University Council.
