In a conversation between Judith Ostermeyer-Køhler, Lena Stühmeier and Alba D’Urbano, we discuss the female body in artistic practice from three perspectives. The range of approaches taken by the three artists extends from the desire to explore, feel and convey the primal, natural essence of womanhood through art (Judith Ostermeyer-Køhler), through to an exploration of beauty and spirituality (Lena Stühmeier) to the female body as a monitored and monitoring entity, where technology and the body converge (Alba D’Urbano). These three perspectives on engaging with one’s own and others’ female bodies are rooted in a long tradition of this much-debated and complex subject.

Julia Schäfer was a curator at the GfZK Leipzig for twenty years and now works as a teacher at a secondary school in Leipzig, where, amongst other things, she endeavours to include more women artists in the canon of art history.
