Entitled “KRATZER”, the first joint exhibition by David Behrens and Anna Sophie Gumz will take place at LiM in the Museum of Fine Arts (MdbK) in Leipzig from 9 June 2026.

David Behrens’ works take materiality as their starting point. Industrially manufactured raw materials such as steel, denim, PVC or MDF are examined through mechanical and chemical interventions. In the process, the material develops its own visual language through injuries and resistance. The resulting installations, drawings, sculptures and prints address the brutal logic of a society that shapes the human body itself into material. The alienated emotional body is projected onto surfaces.

Anna Sophie Gumz regards urban environments and architecture as malleable stages upon which social processes are inscribed in material. Found fragments – objects, images and signs – reveal their hidden meanings through re-staging. In cross-media installations, she combines photography, sculpture and painting to create sedimented assemblages. Found objects function as vessels of collective memory; their traces tell of contemporary history, use and social construction. They establish relationships between objects, environments and identities.

David Behrens (*1990) is a visual artist working at the intersection of image and sculpture. After studying fashion design in Hamburg, he studied media art and painting/graphic design at the HGB Leipzig, graduating with a diploma in 2024. He has also been working as a curator since 2018. He lives and works in Leipzig.

Anna Sophie Gumz was born in Berlin in 1993. The 1990s in the capital, shaped by the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the turn of the millennium now inform her artistic perspective as historical and geographical axes. In 2025, following a year abroad at the Zurich University of the Arts, she graduated with a diploma in Fine Art/Photography under Heidi Specker at the HGB Leipzig. She lives and works in Leipzig and Berlin.
