www.dnb.de/DE/DBSM/dbsm_node.htmlJust a few days after the long-awaited reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, the design studio c-album, which designed the cathedral's new visual identity, is taking a look behind the scenes of the unprecedented creative work that has accompanied the building's rebirth for several years. The performative conference Tabula presents the major challenges of this extraordinary commission, which renews the view of the cathedral, in an innovative way. The ten booklets of an oversized book inspired by medieval manuscripts are presented and animated by two graphic designers - Hendrik Heinicke and Laurent Ungerer. Tabula is conceived as a "walk talk" and takes the form of a tour through the collections of the German Museum of Books and Writing at the German National Library in Leipzig. Tabula explores the big questions raised by this unique challenge in collaboration with Notre-Dame de Paris.
How can spiritual immateriality be materialised? How to build a bridge between the pragmatism of our time and the identity of the cathedral without distorting it? How to distinguish between sacred and non-sacred messages while presenting a homogeneous whole in a universal language? Tabula offers an insight into the universe of Notre-Dame - forms, history, architecture, spaces, public, place in the city - and at the same time an embodied experience of the unexpected territories of graphic design and visual creation.
The edition of Tabula on 3 December 2024 at the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (EnsAD) marked a new stage in this evolutionary performance, which ultimately seeks to share a piece of Notre-Dame and make it travel to a diverse audience in different places.
