"Cut the Mustard" is an annual exhibition format that shows a selection of works by artists enrolled in the K++V bachelor's degree programme at the Lucerne School of Art and Design AND this year, for the first time, also includes artists from our international partner schools. The exhibition takes place in a different institution each year, this year at the akku art platform in Emmenbrücke, Lucerne.
The selection was made by artist, cook and organiser Maya Minder (CH/ROK), who was guest curator at HSLU K++V in the 2023-24 semester, together with Céline Brunko, San Keller and Jack Pryce from HSLU K++V.
Selected from 47 portfolios from 5 schools in Brussels, Kingston, Leipzig, Lucerne and Marseille, this selection reflects a range of positions and practices emerging within the various Fine Art Bachelor programmes. Based on the theme of the Kitchen Lab, the exhibition has been kept open in order to refer to a process-oriented curatorial practice in direct reciprocal dialogue with the individual artistic positions. The various contributions deal with topics such as the metabolisation of artistic production conditions, the relational aesthetics of care work and everyday practice, the narrative of popular culture and technology and, finally, the questioning of history and memory with regard to the future.
