The lecture "On discarding and experiencing the past: a contradictory model of remembrance" by Felicitas Kübler addresses forms of remembrance culture. She analyses "empty" forms of remembrance as phenomena of capitalist socialisation and outlines proposals for a practice of remembrance as a possibility for contemporary social criticism. The performance "Abwurfstelle" by Angelika Waniek narratively scrutinises such a meaningless ritual of remembrance.
The event forms the first act of the multi-part exhibition project "Remembrance as the highest form of forgetting" by artist Ute Richter in collaboration with Angelika Waniek, curated by Kunstraum IDEAL. The project enables artistic work processes on the politics of remembrance and offers a space for dialogue to reflect on historical and current forms of public remembrance and to question their symbolism.
