In three episodes, the exhibition project The Stories We Inhabit takes a look at forms of self-organization in public space and addresses questions of representation and creative power within urban planning. The project sheds light on motifs of resistant recoding and informal continuations of urban infrastructure, examines porous, provisional dramaturgies and follows rituals, peripheral narratives and beaten paths in urban space

The starting point of the project is the imminent development of the Bürgergarten maintained by Neustädter Markt e.V. and the necessary relocation of the self-organized Skulpturenpark Neustadt, which was initiated a few years ago on the wasteland in Meißner Straße as a collaboration between several Leipzig art spaces. For the depot of the formerly site-specific artworks, a storaage system was constructed in the spacious garden of IDEAL, which thematizes the relocation of the objects and the associated decontextualization. In three episodes, a growing network of works and artistic interventions is formed in this setting, continuously creating new references and overwritings over the course of the exhibition.

The name Neustadt is the generic name of a planned city, and also the name of the district in which the IDEAL and the sculpture park are located. The term follows the phantasm of the new, the new building, seriality, urban renewal, the new housing estate, a city without a past and the eternally new. The pursuit of decay, wilderness, deviation and disorder forces this newness into a permanent program of reproduction and restoration.

In the 3rd episode, an idea of renewal is illuminated that follows the coincidences and glitches and defines the new out of the repair. Personal recodings, proliferating stories, desire, the unplanned and the deviant are inscribed as a transgressive force in the re-enactment and care.
