The Stadtgeschichtliches Museum and the photographers of the Leipzig photo agency Punctum look back together on 33 years of agency history and inseparably connected with it on transformation time and city change. A time of the first shrinking, then growing and ever changing city of Leipzig as well as its multifaceted actors. Special insights are provided by the variety of freelance and commissioned works that have made up the agency since 1990. Its founding was initially a quick reaction of East German creative professionals to the new market conditions after the fall of communism.
The name Punctum also reflects a claim that goes far beyond the requirements of pure service. It describes the individual-artistic view of each photographer.
In multi-part series and very concise individual works, the view falls on Leipzig's structural change, formative persons of the urban society as well as major events inscribed in the collective memory.
