Looking back on the episodic long-term project IDEAL Forum (16.05.21 - 15.10.22), the exhibition ground floor (protocol) condenses a protocol of the many-voiced collaborations and interventions of all participating artists who inscribed themselves in the format.
The starting point of the processual project was the entrance counter of the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig. This was duplicated in 2018 for the exhibition "Eingang/Entrance" by Gregor Peschko, where it marked a speculative alternative entrance to the museum on the first floor.
For the exhibition project IDEAL Forum, this counter was disassembled into individual parts and thus served as basic material and spatial infrastructure for the episodic project. During the past year, this infrastructure was continuously transformed in several episodes through interventions by invited artists and initiatives. Through the interventions, a reprogramming of the previous function and disposition that the entrance counter held as a former institutional form took place. Through the shared material, overwritings, relationships, and interruptions were formulated between the artistic interventions. IDEAL Forum became an experimental field for relationships between a connecting structure and the sovereign artists.
With the final exhibition ground floor (protocol), the traces and programming of the participating artists come together as a potential script for the former counter. The material becomes a hybrid form, a display that tests itself via the inscribed references as an infrastructural interface between different art spaces and artists. A potential counter-design to the hierarchical institution as a decentralized form of organization of autonomous actors - as a museum on a vertical level.
IDEAL FORUM is curated by Gregor Peschko and organized in collaboration with Clara Hofmann. The graphic design is created by Marcus Wachter.
