ALSO KNOWN AS JIHADI by Eric Baudelaire
99 Minuten, 2017 (englische subtitlesl)
Also Known As Jihadi (2017) follows the progress of a young man’s journey from France to Syria, and back to France where he is incarcerated for allegedly joining Daesh. Based on real events, and drawn from thousands of pages of judicial documents, the cinematic work employs the so-called landscape theory (fukeiron in Japanese).

AURORA KINO All cinemas closed, streaming and online conferences everywhere: how many of the not even 2000 German cinemas will open again after the pandemic? What value will we assign to the collective film experience in the future? In 2019, we organized around 20 events in small towns in Saxony with "Kino in Bewegung". Our goal: to enter into discussion with local people at the same level, to find common ground, to understand differences - to address the almost silent death of cinema as a collective space for reflection. In the past 10 years, Saxony alone has lost 19 percent of its cinemas - all of them in locations with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants. Our summary after eight months: the lack of these reflective spaces is painfully noticeable. And: single events are certainly not a sustainable answer to this. A problem of the "province"? What if it were the other way around this time? What if the consequences of structural change and digitization appear more drastically and sooner in rural areas than in urban areas with their diverse overlays? With this question in mind, we then launched the RES.CINEMA seminar a year ago, the start of which collided with the first lockdown. So we moved our discussions with cinema operators, filmmakers and distributors to the web. In parallel, we met virtually for weekly film screenings. This brought us to a form in which joint film reception and subsequent discussion could be realized as an alternative in the future. Under the working title "AURORA KINO" we want to test this digital format from now on.
