Instagram Takeover of M.1 Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung | @m1hohenlockstedt
As an informal, everyday act often relegated to the realm of the trivial, the untrustworthy, and the deviant, gossip seems to stand in sharp contrast to institutional modes of representation. Digital platforms, however, make it clear that the circulation of manipulated information no longer takes place backstage, but has become an un:visible part of networked infrastructures in which institutions also participate. So how does gossip take effect precisely from there?
Drawing on Legacy Russell's notion of the glitch, the accidental error that indicates the radical failure of a system, students work through the short-term takeover of the M.1 Instagram account in a seminar. Using M.1 as an example, their multi-day intervention takes a look at institutional narratives, images of self and others, contrasting, accelerating, distorting, or transfiguring them, making present the deviations inherent in any system of representation.
The Takeover will take place April 26-29 at @m1hohenlockstedt and will be visible in a new form as part of Broken Relations - Infrastruktur und Unterbrechung in June.
