In the practice of Saxony's building administration, art in architecture as art in public space has both building-cultural and discursive potential - in the artistic reference to urban planning and functional contexts. In recent years, expanded art forms and conceptual orientations have increasingly led to the activation of art in architecture in decidedly site- and context-specific forms and orientations.

In this workshop, we will use an art-in-architecture project realized by the Saxon State Enterprise for Real Estate and Construction Management (SIB) as an introduction to the design development and selection process. Sophie Uchman (visual artist, sculptor) will present the genesis of her art project for the TU Dresden - Institute of Energy Technology and describe the necessities and procedures for practical implementation.

Together with representatives of the awarding authority, Dr.-Ing. Marcus van Reimersdahl (SMWK) and Ingo Fischer (SIB Leipzig branch), we will talk about the basics, conditions and requirements of art in building practice and about desirable changes.

Participants will receive tips for participating in art in architecture competitions and for realization practice. The second half of the workshop will be open to questions from participants.
