Project launch of "gespiegelt – Perspectives on contemporary etching"
Supra-regional travelling exhibition with students, graduates and teachers from Braunschweig, Leipzig and Berlin planned for 2026

A joint meeting at the HGB in December marked the start of the "gespiegelt" exhibition project, which will be travelling through Germany in 2026. Dr Gunda Luyken, Director of the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig, was also a guest at the HGB for the project launch: the Museum für Druckkunst will host the exhibition as the first stop in June. This will be followed by the gallery of the Braunschweig University of Art, the Alte Feuerwache in Berlin and the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg. All exact exhibition dates will be published soon on the HGB website.

Maria Ondrej (artistic assistant and head of the etching workshop at the Braunschweig University of Art), Robert Schmiedel (lecturer and workshop manager for etching at the HGB Leipzig) and Pedro Boese (lecturer and workshop manager for intaglio printing at the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin) have developed the concept for the joint travelling exhibition:

The cooperation and the planned exhibitions aim to cast a shadow on the current and future handling of various intaglio printing techniques and to promote their development potential. The co-operation is intended to create a platform for exchange in order to deepen similarities, work out differences, discuss, learn from and inspire each other. Teaching and teaching concepts of the three universities can thus be complemented and improved.

The project also represents an important contribution to safeguarding the vitality and viability of gravure printing as an intangible cultural heritage.
