Aufgrund der aktuellen pandemischen Entwicklung findet die Veranstaltung mit Webex statt:
As part of the lecture series "Art as a Profession - Professions in Art" we talk to:
Sophie Neuendorf, Vice president of artnet.com
Not least because of the Coroana crisis, online art trading is picking up speed - what opportunities does this offer? And what role do NFTSs in particular play in this context?
artnet is the leading digital platform in the globalized art world. The company was founded back in 1989 and initially offered up-to-date information on auction results and price developments. Today, the "Price Database" is the world's most comprehensive archive for auction results; here, collectors and experts can find all-encompassing information on the art trade. In addition to offering a wide range of information, artnet also became actively involved in the art trade: since 2004, there has been a cooperation with Sotheby's, and since 2008, online auctions.
The business has now been taken over by the second generation - the children of founder Hans Neuendorf. Sophie Neuendorf and her brothers are around 30 years old. And they have taken a new step and launched "artnft" in December 2021. NFTs are now auctioned on their own platform, and the specially researched report "artnet NFT 30" is also published. A first NFT auction also took place in December. We talk to Sophie Neuendorf about how it went, and of course about everything else interesting about the platform.
This lecture belongs to the series Art as a Profession - Professions in Art. (Cornelia Renz, Julia Brodauf) On the coming Wednesday afternoons we will continue to follow the trail in conversations with other players who sometimes even seem like opponents to us artists: gallery owners, curators, museum directors, journalists * inside, critics *, but also political institutions.
They too all want to persist in this field, earn money with art and help shape and define the art field. Let's get to know them!
