Portfolio/Student counselling
The HGB offers the possibility to get advice about your portfolio from members of the teaching staff and to get information about study opportunities.
Registration time: August 15th to October 15th

Appointments will be arranged until the middle of November.
Another opportunity for portfolio counselling is the "Tag der offenen Tür", usually on the second Thursday in January.
Please note that photos on your mobile phone are not sufficient for a portfolio consultation. Originals or digital presentations on a tablet are preferred.
The student councils of the HGB and HMT Leipzig have set up their own psychological counseling center. Since May 2012, psychologist Dr. Ingolf Schauer has been available once a week during the lecture period for problems, questions and sensitivities of any kind. Private problems can be discussed as well as those related to studies. All appointments are open to students of both universities. Groups are also welcome. Psychological counseling is free of charge for students.

For international students at the HGB, there is a special social counselling service that answers questions ranging from orientation at the place of study to the topics of residence and financing.
International HGB students—such as international students in the Diploma program, international master’s students, Erasmus students, participants in the AtA Academy for Transcultural Exchange, international visiting students, and prospective HGB students from abroad—can take advantage of this special counseling service for social, personal, and financial matters. The service includes informational sessions, open office hours, and individual counseling. Individual counseling is free of charge and takes place in a confidential setting. It can be conducted in English, French, or German. Anonymous counseling is also available. Counseling with translation services is available upon request.
Counseling topics include:
- Questions regarding financing your studies (part-time jobs, social benefits, living expenses, etc.)
- Questions regarding residency rights in Germany
- Access to higher education (orientation and referral counseling)
- Starting studies, completing studies, transitioning into professional life
- At-risk studies, doubts about continuing studies
- Debt, financial emergencies
- Personal crisis situations
- Communication with authorities, health insurance providers, landlords
- Broadcasting license fee (ARD, ZDF, Deutschlandradio)
- Organizing and financing studies (e.g., leave of absence, part-time study, etc.), exceeding the standard period of study
- Studying while pregnant or with a child (organizing and financing studies)
- Studying with a disability or chronic illness (e.g., accommodations, finances)
