Lithography

The Lithography Workshop offers a wide range of courses covering basic techniques and methods for experimental exploration in lithography. On Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, the workshop is open to all students and their individual projects, provided they have completed a basic course or can demonstrate the relevant technical skills. Foundational courses are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Teaching is primarily conducted in German. The aim of the workshop courses is to enable students to work as independently as possible.

Courses Offered

  • Tuesday / Foundation course / priority given to compulsory-elective courses for 2nd-year students specialising in Painting/Printmaking / full-day / max. 5 places
  • Wednesday / Foundation course / priority given to compulsory-elective courses for 2nd-year students specialising in Book Arts/Graphic Design / full-day / max. 5 places
  • Once the spots reserved for students in required courses have been filled, the remaining spots will be allocated to students in all fields of study starting in their second year, as well as to students transferring from other fields, Meisterschüler*innen, and Erasmus students.

Course duration

Throughout the academic year, there are 8 basic course blocks, each lasting 6 weeks, spread over 2 semesters. There is a Tuesday class and a Wednesday class. The class day is then once a week, full-day sessions from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. The entire day is required; it is not possible to attend other events during this time. Excused absences will be made up with individual catch-up days in consultation with the course leaders. During the term, there will be four blocks of foundation courses, each taking place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Course objective and certification

The course objective is to enable students to produce original printing blocks using lithographic techniques independently, to understand printing processes and to carry them out without supervision. The knowledge acquired in the course regarding workshop use and health and safety protocols must be applied. Regular attendance on the course and the ability to print independently are prerequisites for certification.

Workshop supervision
