As if something has moved. Not suddenly, but gradually; it enters beneath the surface of things: into the way we understand what a body is, what a system is, what it means to live in a world that does not stand still, that moves with timeless speed.
The boundaries we once trusted, which we thought we knew, are becoming porous: Technology moves like an organism. Nature carries data. The self extends beyond one’s own skin and returns altered. Time unfolds like an opaque construct that does not match the velocity of all things. Scales of measurement are falling apart – the cosmos and the cell, the infinite and the intimate, press against one another, dissolve, decay and drift apart.
We are no longer at the centre of the picture. Something else has stepped into the middle of the stage, and we are still learning how to look at it, how to talk about it, how to relate to it without claiming to comprehend it.
What can endure this uncertainty without having to resolve it?
What can dwell within this contradiction and find it fruitful?
What can pose a question and allow that question to breathe?
The works in this exhibition do not all agree with one another. Nor do they need to. They span the entire spectrum of what it means to be human, and beyond: into the digital, the organic, the uncanny, the cosmic, the terrestre, and the collective heritage. They transmit and receive, remember and transform, shatter and preserve.
The space they inhabit is not neutral. It never has been. It is shaped by everything that is placed within it; by presence, by absence, by the weight of what came before, and by the uncertainty of what is to come.
What stays constant when everything changes. Perhaps the question itself.
