Objects of Care

08/2023 3D-clay-prints/ video work/ artistic research
The 3D ceramic printing is examining the visualization of getting in touch. The first impulse for this work came up, when I watched old videos of me as a child. My grandfather filmed my whole childhood and recapped it in 6 hours of my first years. The scenes, when my family got in touch with me, attracted my attention and I wondered, how interpersonal contact directs you in your childhood.
The skin receives external signals through Aß-fibres, which conduce to a fast sensory channeling. In 1993 scientists discovered CT-fibres on
human skin, which is also part of the tactile converting system, yet they handle information far better differentiated and channel them way more slowly. For example they can react to touches of similar body temperature. CT-fibres are known as „Second Touch System“ and have a great
impact on interpersonal contact. Additionally to the scenes of my childhood, me and my closest family members moisturized each others hands,
so I could experience and capture a simple skin contact of care. After my theoretical research about interpersonal contact in childhood and its impact on our development and behavior, I presented the information in my class and asked my fellow students to form little s      culptures of clay according to my lecture. With one sculpture they should practice warm touch and imagine to activate the Second Touch System. The other one should be treated roughly in order to activate the Aß-fibres. The results served as an inspiration for the shape of 3D-Clay-Prints. I created two different shapes, which I printed over and over.
