"The Escape of the Lovebirds" explores the dynamics of hetero-normative relationships through an original text. Based on the mating behavior of African mini-parrots, Marie Charlotte Elsner develops a solo performance that takes up questions about learned romance and relates them to the historical understanding of affection, partnership and prevailing binary systems.

The image of laundry drying in the summer wind is the starting point for the link between family ties and romantic relationships, as Elsner tries to fathom them in her performance. In poetic language, she radically confronts the learned relationship dynamics that have accompanied her throughout her life and attempts to negotiate a compromise. Wedding photos, white sheets in the wind and inherited pearl necklaces meet us in the props and decorate space and performer.
