Works of the early baroque as well as contemporary music by Orlando di Lasso, Sarvenaz Safari (UA), Gregor Forbes(UA), Arvo Pärt, Satō Sōmei, Thomas Preston, among others, will be performed.
Duo L'Oro and guests devote music and performance to the human being. The human being as an aggregate. As a composition of different, independent particles. Michel de Montaigne (1533 - 1592) has poetic words for what the artists are exploring:
Nous sommes tous de lopins et d'une contexture si informe et diverse, que chaque pièce, chaque moment fait son jeu. (Essais II, 1.)
We are all made of different patches of different weaves. And each one of them, at any given moment, plays its own game. [free translation]
The complex and often mysterious states of the human psyche are far from new. The words for what drives the artists are almost 500 years old and yet could not be more current.
Our world is spinning and changing more rapidly than ever. Through these emotions, humans experience different (aggregate) states - like that of water. It freezes, flows, gurgles, fizzles ... The water remains water. The human being also remains a human being. We remain us and yet never as we were. The patches that make us up play their game. And in this game they change their form.
