The School of Labor (1928-33) in Leipzig, a forgotten
History:

The Schule der Arbeit (1928-1933) was a model project of Leipzig's workers' education under the direction of Gertrud Hermes. With the new building by the architect Johannes Niemeyer in Stieglitzstraße in 1928 created a modern place for young workers to live and learn together.

In the Leipzig city archives, the records from the planning to the the closing of the School of Labor and texts by the pedagogue Gertrud Hermes have been preserved. From the inauguration in October 1928 to the attack by the SA in the spring of 1933 and the subsequent seizure by the National Socialists, the course of history becomes painfully clear.

After archival research on the Schule der Arbeit by the artist Ute Richter in cooperation with Luise Ritter and Franka Sachse, the video "Gertrud Hermes or video "Gertrud Hermes or The Difference between the Experience of Violence and Democracy". It is an artistic appropriation of forgotten history, with an history, with a current view.
