Invitation card

Kay Yoon (1994, Seoul, Korea) is an artist who works in a variety of media. By mixing the handcraft and mechanical automation, Yoon blurs the border of originality in the making process and questions the artistic existence in our contemporary society. By applying poetics and often metaphorical language, she investigates the dynamics of landscape, including the manipulation of its effects and the modern meaning of the third landscape, where the diversification of bodies, spaces, and territories reconstruct in a form of urban habitats.

In a search for new methods to read the landscape, she focuses on the idea of public space and or specifically on spaces where people do not share their identities: the non space, the non-privately owned space, the non-privatized space known to exist, but is considered abandoned and forgotten. Yoon creates with familiar images an unexpected situation where the viewer is confronted with conditioning his own perception. Rather than creating the factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of imagination.

Her works appear as images in which fiction and reality meet, manual and automatic labor blend, meanings shift, past and present fuse. She establishes the link between reality and the viewer’s personal perception towards the spatial experience. Kay Yoon currently lives and works in Leipzig.
