We want to act as an intermediary between the various university bodies and the student body.
We therefore see ourselves more as a ‘SuRe’, a student editorial office that notifies, mediates and communicates.
We would like to use our mandate to reactivate the Student Council (or the Student Editorial Office) as a meaningful voice(s) in university politics through cross-departmental collaboration.
Together with the students, we would like to design, discuss and initiate concepts for participation and involvement.
It is particularly important to us to strengthen the university community and create structures that function as open formats for communication and exchange.
SR work is not a question of offices and departments: Your initiative is required.Our meetings currently take place on Fridays in room 68, for the exact time please write us an email, you are very welcome to attend the meetings!
Everything that concerns the student body is discussed in the meetings.
This includes, among other things
- ensuring and improving the quality of the degree programme and everyday university life
- psychological and social support for students
- mobility
- financial and organisational support for student projects
- organising and supporting public university events
Special tasks are assigned to the chairperson and the financial officer. They maintain contact with the university management, issue statements and organise meetings and the budget.
The election of the SR members takes place every year towards the end of the summer semester. If you
a) are a HGB student and
b) are interested in taking part,
you can then stand for election.
Psychological counselling at the HGB
The student councils of the HGB and HMT Leipzig have joined forces to set up their own psychological counselling centre for you. Since May 2012, qualified psychologist Dr Ingolf Schauer has been available once a week during the lecture period for problems, questions and sensitivities of any kind. Private problems can be discussed as well as those relating to your studies. From doubts, fears, dissatisfaction, degree stress and anxiety about the future to disputes with friends and family - whatever is on your mind will be discussed! For the counselling days, it doesn't matter which house you are from. All dates are open to students from both universities. Groups are also welcome! Psychological counselling is free of charge for students.

If you have general questions about psychological counselling, please write an email to sr24@hgb-leipzig.de.
The Studentenwerk Leipzig also offers free psychological counselling services for students in Leipzig. You can find more detailed information on the Studentenwerk website. Studentenwerk Leipzig also offers group services for psychosocial counselling.
For international students at the HGB, there is a special social counselling service that answers questions ranging from orientation at the place of study to the topics of residence and financing.
The possibility of financial project funding is open to all HGB students. Project funding applications are available from the SR office and can be downloaded here. We support projects that
- contribute to networking between members of the HGB and other institutions and collectives within and outside the art context;
- test the linking of different disciplines or open up perspectives on transdisciplinary, transcontextual forms of practice (preferably involving external actors who are supposedly foreign to the art context);
- are processual and open-ended;
- position themselves in an emancipatory way and reflect on issues such as anti-racism, queer feminism, anti-discrimination and participation in their relationship to aesthetic practices and strategies
with up to 400€.
Not eligible for funding:
- Class projects, in-class seminars, subject-specific programmes
- Projects with a party-political character or those that take place as part of events with a predominantly party-political character
- Projects of a predominantly commercial nature or projects that take place as part of events of a predominantly commercial nature
- Projects that are already fully financed by institutions (galleries, museums, cultural institutions)
- Food & beverages
Please submit two completed applications before the start of the project (SR mailbox at the gate or hand in at the SR office). Applications should include a project description explaining why the submitted project fulfils our funding requirements, a timetable and a comprehensible financial plan justifying the requested amount.
Decisions on (partial) approval or rejection of applications are made democratically by the Student Council and applicants are notified as soon as possible with reasons (and, if applicable, advice on alternative funding options more appropriate to the project, e.g. from the Support Office, the Circle of Friends, the Student Union).
Payment will be made retrospectively on presentation of verifiable invoices/receipts corresponding to the financing plan. Payment can only be made if all documents are submitted in full. We reserve the right to reject approved project applications if they are not complete.
The deadline for submitting supporting documents is one year. This can be extended upon request and with justification. Otherwise the entitlement to payment of the approved funds will lapse.
If you are awarded funding, please remember to document your projects with photographs, as we intend to publish them on this website as part of our project funding archive.
We wish you every success!
